We welcome back and are happy to showcase the following educators at the 2024 Winternights Festival.
2024 – Educators / Presenters Include:
* OLAF of the North- Slavic Invasion *
We feel fortunate and happy to announce that Olaf will be returning again this year.. He brings with him Viking fighting skills, weapons, knowledge of both, his encampment, Viking clothing, and of course his great humor and good will.. Olaf is a member of Slavic Invasion .. was hoping to see the 2 shield maidens battle again but we have no problem raising a horn to say “Hail Olaf – Velkom”
* King Peter - Slavic Invasion
In addition to Olaf returning again this year.. other members of the Slavic Invasion including King Peter may also be returning. They would be setting up an area with displays and to discuss their group and Vikings in general.
* Janice - Educator / Teacher *
We welcome a local professor/teacher at several of our schools and/or community colleges – Janice. She will be giving a hands on class in using a Sun Stone like seen in History channels – Viking series. Learn how to use it and a time compass (non magnetic) to pin point navigation direction within several degrees. These were easy to carry on oneself either at sea or on land.
She also will be going over one of the Rune alphabets used during the Viking age. There were several based on location and over a span of years. Learn about them at our Rune Wall
Last she will be doing Rune readings using rune stones one might carry or a spiritual leader might use.
* Lars & Sven Foundation *
The foundation prepares and presents a multitude of opportunities to learn about Vikings and their culture. Learning can be as simple as a show and tell exhibit or when and where possible participating in an activity.
Viking Smelting Furnace – build of it was impacted by freezing temps all week. There currently is a FIRE Danger warning preventing use. Discussion on using it and examples still on.
Show and tell can run from seeing and/or reading to watching a live demonstration of a Viking activity/practice/skill.
